From 2010 to 2015, there has been a jump in the number of cyclists commuting to work in the Washington. D.C. area, with an increase of 1.8%. According to the American Community Survey, about 13,000 D.C. residents bike to work each day, with an increase of 1,200 new cyclists each year. Portland, OR is currently the city with the largest number of commuters who bike to work, at 6.4%. Communications director for the Washington Area Bicycling Association said, “by making biking feel safe and convenient, you get more people doing it.” Hopefully the number of cyclists will increase over the years!
